  • Engaging Online Learners

What matters in online learning? What has to change to engage learners across geographies and time zones? What unique challenges exist across asynchronous, synchronous, and hybrid learning? Hear Angela Lee’s practical tips and tools in this session.

  • The Essence of Experience in Experiential Entrepreneurship education

Entrepreneurship education today is no longer a question of if it can be taught or should be taught (questions that were prevalent in the last decade or so). It is more on how it should be taught. There is a growing and almost convergent global consensus that entrepreneurship education should be experiential. But what is Experience – or the essence of Experience that we plan in experiential entrepreneurship education? I think the answer here lies in diversity of experience as well as complexity of experience. This talk will try and delve into understanding this essence so that we may go on and design/weave/build even better experiential learning modules for tomorrow. There will be examples of different experiences, simulations, observations and learnings that I have made throughout the years teaching Entrepreneurship across various faculties – Business, Science, Engineering, Humanities etc. Rajiv Vaid Basaiawmoit.

  • The evolution of social innovation education: A Georgia Tech case-study

In this presentation, we’ll discuss what we learned from running a social innovation competition at Georgia Tech, called Ideas to Serve. We’ll describe its evolution from a stand-alone heropreneur, student-centered approach to a course-based, equitable, partner-centered collaboration. Learn how you can prepare students to be effective and empathetic social entrepreneurs by purposefully elevating community-based organizations as co-educators. Dori Pap and Susan Davis.

IV session – Case Studies on Using Innovative Entrepreneurship Education Methods

  • The Importance of the Facilitator in Entrepreneurship Simulation: Maximizing the Student Learning Experience

The perceived effectiveness of serious game pedagogy for students has been demonstrated earlier. Yet, the emphasis has often been on the technics, serious game itself, its content, and aims. Much less emphasis has been given to the role of the teacher; as if anyone could run a serious game and the learning outcome would be the same. Our study demonstrates that a nexus, “facilitator-serious game”, seems to be central to the production of positive learning outcomes in serious game-based pedagogy. Indeed, the role of the facilitator seems to be as important as the game itself for the increase in the entrepreneurial motivation and aspirations of students, rather than merely providing fun and entertaining teaching session for them. Yosra Boughattas and Erno Tornikoski.

  • Gig Lab: practical training for freelancers

The Conestoga Gig Lab helps individuals monetize their professional skills by launching a freelance business over the course of 15 weeks. Self-directed careers are more popular than ever and demand for freelancers is high as companies seek to build flexible capacity to fuel growth. The Gig Lab has been designed to address the nuances and specific needs of freelancers while developing the skills, mindsets and tools to flourish in the professional Gig Economy. Rose Mastnak

  • Gamification: Come ready to participate in several of the gamified challenges that lead to very intentional learning outcomes for our students – and possibly you! These exercises will test your own innovation leadership skills, from using the resources around you to finding clever non-obvious solutions.

We’re confident this workshop will give you practical ideas on how to approach your own entrepreneurship ecosystem challenges to build a program filled with lessons and activities that your students will not only use in the rest of their time at your University, but long into their careers!

TESTIMONIALS

M. Nauman Farooqi, Ph.D.

Dean of Business and Social Sciences, Mount Allison University, Canada
I was amazed at the energy and excitement among attendees at the GEES! The blend of academic and practitioner speakers added value to the summit. I walked away with making some excellent contacts and a load of new ideas to share and implement at my university. I look forward to attending the 2023 GEES and highly recommend it.

Pam Induni

UC Berkeley, Sutardja Center for Entrepreneurship & Technology; 2022 GEES Guest Speaker: ‘The Idea Equation’
What a thought-provoking and motivating experience! Featuring guest speakers and attendees from both Academia and Industry who are not only teaching entrepreneurship, but founders themselves. A reimagining entrepreneurship education hands-on workshop that creatively captured the hearts and minds of all of us – and provided a roadmap for execution. And the most inspiring aspect? Being co-located with the European Innovation Academy (EIA) program which welcomes and challenges 450 global students from top universities to work in teams to take their idea from concept to market in under 3 weeks. It was such an honor being a part of this hands-on, multi-faceted event. Already looking forward to GEES 2023!

James Moore

Associate Professor at Lazaridis School of Business and Economics, Wilfred Laurier University, Canada
